Best Brioche French Toast Recipe

Possibly the best brioche French toast. Finishing it in the oven prevents runny or underdone thick slices. Browned butter adds nutty, caramel flavour to maple delight. 

– 1 ½ cups milk – 4 large egg – 1 teaspoon vanilla extract – 1 teaspoon white sugar – ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg – 1 pinch salt – 1 tablespoon butter, divided, or more as needed – 6 (1 inch) thick slices dry brioche bread – ¼ cup butter – 6 tablespoons maple syrup, or more to taste

Step 1

Start with a 350°F oven. Whisk milk, eggs, vanilla, sugar, nutmeg, and salt in a bowl.

Cook 1 1/2 teaspoons butter on medium. Dip brioche bread in egg mixture and cook in warm butter until golden, 2–3 minutes per side, adding butter as required. Baking French toast.

Bake 8–10 minutes in preheated oven until puffed.Over medium-low heat, brown and toast 1/4 cup butter in a pan, 3 to 5 minutes.

Serve browned butter cold. Top baked French toast with 1 tablespoon maple syrup and browned butter.
