Classic Banana Walnut Bread Recipe

For breakfast, snack, or dessert, banana walnut bread is perfect. Recipe creator Catherine Brookes of Blue Sky Eating makes banana walnut bread using chopped walnuts for a delicate nut flavour and maximum texture. 


– 2 large, very ripe banana – 2 tablespoons milk – ½ cup butter, room temperature – 1¼ cups all-purpose flour – ¾ cups white sugar – 1 teaspoon baking soda – 1 teaspoon baking powder – 2 large egg – ¾ cup chopped walnut



Line a 1-pound loaf pan with parchment paper or a loaf liner and preheat to 320 F.

Place the bananas in a big bowl and use a fork to mash them well.

With an electric mixer, combine milk, butter, flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and eggs. Gently stir in chopped walnuts with a wooden spoon.

Fill the loaf pan with the mixture. Bake the loaf until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean, 45–50 minutes. Warm the bread.
