Step 2

Remove the cod from its packaging and place it on a plate or cutting board. Use a paper towel to pat off any excess moisture.

Step 3

Transfer the cod to a casserole dish, baking dish, or sheet pan. Sprinkle both sides of each fillet with sea salt, garlic powder, and black pepper.

Step 4

Heat a small skillet over medium heat on the stove top. Add the butter, olive oil, and fresh garlic. Sauté the garlic on the stove top for 2 to 4 minutes, until it is very fragrant but isn't showing any color.

Step 5

You can increase the heat to medium high if you’re keeping a close watch on the garlic. Be sure to pull the garlic off of the stove top before it begins turning golden brown.

Step 6

The goal is to open up the garlic flavor but not overcook the garlic.

Step 7

Spoon the garlic butter mixture over the cod. Use the back of the spoon to coat the cod with the garlic butter mixture.

Step 8

Bake cod for 12-15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 145 degrees Fahrenheit. Insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the fish to verify the temperature.

Step 9

Serve with lemon slices and your favorite side dishes, and enjoy! I like garnishing the fish with chopped fresh parsley and red pepper flakes.
