Fill up the 6 QT Instant Pot with water, steel-cut oats, salt, and vanilla extract. Mix things together well.

Close the lid and turn the valve so that it says "sealing." Use the Pressure Cooker/Manual mode to set the timer for 4 minutes on HIGH pressure.

Let the Instant Pot do a natural pressure release for 20 minutes after the cooking time is over. This means don't touch it, take the lid off, or do a manual pressure release.

After the natural release, switch the valve to'venting' to release pressure and steam. Open the Instant Pot cover and stir well to blend.

Top the oats with your favorite ingredients. Sliced bananas, blueberries, almonds, and honey are family favorites.
