Holiday Sangria Recipe- Step by Step Guide

  • If you think of Spanish sangria, you might picture cups of it being chilled on a hot, sunny day.
  • But wait! Winter is orange season! Because fresh fruit tastes best when it’s cold outside, Christmas sangria should be a part of your celebrations this year!
  • Spices like black peppercorn, cinnamon, and clove are added to a strong red wine to make this sangria recipe feel like winter.
  • It is then mixed with Licor 43, a Spanish liquor that smells like orange and vanilla, and garnished with slices of fresh citrus and rosemary that smells like pine. You should make holiday sangria at least 4 hours ahead of time so that it tastes its best.
  • You can cross another thing off your holiday to-do list if you make it ahead of time.
  • Like our sparkling holiday punch, this winter sangria is an easy batch drink that you can serve to a lot of people. You can always be sure that there is a drink for people who come over. Just let people help themselves while you enjoy yourself.
  • There’s no hiding the fact that this sangria recipe calls for red wine. I’ve also thought of your friends who like white wine.If you want to make White Wine Sangria holiday-themed, just make it, add some nuts, and instead of peaches, use orange slices.

Ingredients

  • 5 oranges (I like navel)
  • 1 lemon
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 3 rosemary sprigs, plus more for garnish
  • ½ cup Licor 43
  • Honey, to taste (optional)
  • 5 black peppercorns
  • 3 cloves
  • 1 (750ml) bottle red wine (I like Rioja)
  • Seasonal fruit, like sliced citrus, apples, cranberries, pomegranates, and grapes, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Put the oranges on top. Get ½ cup of juice from the oranges, which is about 2 to 3 oranges. Then, cut the rest of the oranges and the lemon into ¼-inch rounds. Spread the lemon pieces, cinnamon sticks, and rosemary sprigs out in the bottom of a big jug.
  2. Add sugar. The orange juice, Licor 43, and honey (about ¼ cup if you want a sweeter drink) should be added.
  3. Put in the cloves and peppercorns. The spices can be put into the pitcher without any bags or tied together with kitchen twine on a tea bag or cheesecloth.
  4. Rest after adding the wine. After adding the red wine, stir everything together. Make sure to leave the fruit layers whole so they stay in the water. Put the wine in the fridge and cover it tightly with a lid or plastic wrap. This will let the spices absorb the wine and make the tastes stronger. It works best overnight, but you’ll need at least 4 hours and no more than 2 days.
  5. Do it. Pour the sangria into cups that have been filled with ice. Add more fruit slices and rosemary leaves to decorate. Good morning!
